Mission to Mir

Destiny in Space didn’t satisfy your thirst for knowledge, another visit to Adelaide IMAX will certainly be on the cards. With its latest release, Mission to Mir, IMAX again shows its enormous potential.

Mission to Mir takes viewers on a rare, behind-the-scenes look at the Russian and US space programs and provides inspirational footage of the docking procedures of the space shuttle and Space Station Mir.

Since March 1995, NASA astronauts have served as crewmembers aboard Mir. The NASA program supporting this endeavour is commonly known as International Space Station Phase 1.

Filmed in space by the astronauts, this unprecedented 40-minute, giant-screen tour of Mir gives viewers a unique look inside the weightless home in space that international teams of scientists have occupied since 1986.

Only when one views this presentation can one truly grasp the bravery and commitment of the Mir astronauts. They are truly the heroes of today.

Miss Congeniality

The Miss United States Pageant – hallowed and revered home of American beauty for the past 50 years – has received a threat from one of the country’s most infamous criminals, the “Citizen”. The FBI has been tracking this psychopath for years, as his rampage of bombings, shootings and arson has terrorized the nation. This may be their first chance to seize him.

The plan is to place an undercover agent in the pageant as a contestant. But, after an extensive computer search of the FBI personnel records, finding the right agent becomes difficult.

The only operative worth considering is Special Agent Gracie Hart (Sandra Bullock) who, after some innovative computer animation, starts to look rather interesting. But Gracie has no interest in the glamour industry; she doesn’t own a brush or a dress, and has never worn high heels.

The FBI is desperate, and hires a beauty-pageant consultant (Michael Caine) to transform Gracie – or, as he renames her, “Dirty Harriet” – into Gracie Lou Freebush – the perfect pageant consultant.

As might be expected, Miss Congeniality is a comedy – after all, who could take it seriously? Benjamin Bratt, Candice Bergen and William Shatner also star in the film. It is recommended viewing as light, easy-going entertainment.

The original music soundtrack is also available and features a number of catchy pop tunes in addition to a remix of She’s a Lady by Tom Jones. Also featured on the soundtrack are Red Venom, Groove Aramda, Baha Men, Salt ’N’ Pepa, Los Lobos and William Shatner. Miss Congeniality – The Soundtrack is available now.

The Bill

Rated as one of Australia’s favourite police dramas, The Bill consistently figures in the nation’s top ten. Released by ABC video in March, In on the Game contains another two exciting episodes from the Sun Hill station.

In Spill – a special one-hour episode – PCs Stamp and Quinnan are the first on the scene when a lorry containing dangerous chemicals crashes into a scaffolded building. What seems a simple case of drink driving proves far more sinister.

In the title episode, Boyden and Slater arrest a top-class prostitute, but when Slater starts delving further into the case, Boyden interferes. It would seem that he has his own plans for her.

The Bill – In on the Game is available now at all ABC Shops, ABC Centres and leading video stores. It will be a perfect addition to the video collection of all fans of The Bill. It will also make a perfect gift.

For the opportunity to win one of five copies of Inn on the Game put your details on the back of an envelope and send it to The Bill Comp, SA Police Journal (168).
