Dear Andy

I hereby tender my resignation from the Police Association effective November 29, 2000, due to my retirement.

My thanks to SAPOL for the good times, 1966 – 1985.

The caravan moves on but the dogs keep barking.

Dear President

Please accept my resignation from PASA, my last day of service being December 13, 2000. My sincerest thanks go to all staff of PASA for their assistance and patience.

Yours sincerely

Dear Sir

Please accept this letter as my resignation from PASA, my last day of service with SAPOL being January 12, 2001. I will be commencing employment as an investigator with the Department of Water Resources from that date.

After 27 years of service with SAPOL I leave with mixed feelings. I say thank you and goodbye to the many members I have worked with in that time, particularly the members of course 45 (circa 1973), with whom I spent three memorable years, and to the members of the nearly extinct Crime Command, which has been my home for the past 17 years.

Thank you to the Police Association, which has helped me out over the years with a couple of minor hitches. I commend its services to all serving SA police officers. While composing this letter I thought of many things I wanted to say but quickly realized they would probably not even be read by those senior managers who really needed to heed them. I will just say to my peers, who are frustrated by the lack of promotion and personal development, look outside of the square you work in. There does appear to be life outside of SAPOL.

Goodbye and good luck
Nigel Laity
Ex Major Crime

Dear Peter and Andy

Please accept my resignation from PASA as of January 17, 2001, as it will be my last day of service after joining in 1977.

First, I wish the Association the best of success with EB3 and any future claims for the improvement of conditions.

While I am certainly looking forward to the challenges and opportunities in my new venture outside “the job”, I am left with mixed feelings in the knowledge that I will miss the camaraderie and the police culture, of which we are all a big part. What I will not miss, however, is the now more prevalent style of “big-stick” management which seems to be filtering its way down from the upper levels. It is a poor substitute for good management, communication and motivational skills.

I wish the remaining members of course 60 all the best for the future in their careers. Also, I thank all members I have had the pleasure to meet and work alongside of during my vocational travels throughout the state, especially the members I have worked with during the past 18 years within Major Crash. Don’t believe everything you hear – there really was such a thing as the good old days.

Lastly, thanks and good luck to the teams and players in the police basketball competition run on Tuesday mornings. If anyone is looking for a game, no matter what skill level (I am living proof of that), you will be more than welcome.

All the best for the future
Bob (Rocky) Reincke

Please accept my resignation from the Police Association, effective January 19, 2001. I am leaving SAPOL to take up a position with Transport SA as the manager of Road Transport Assessment and Safety.

It is at a time such as this when thoughts as to all of those issues throughout the 35-plus years, that at the time seemed so vast, now pale into insignificance.

It is a time when I think of the good things that have happened to me, and the great people that I have been fortunate enough to work with. In particular, as I have been passing steadily through the years of life and leaving my youth behind, I have really appreciated the interaction I have enjoyed with some of the younger members of this organization. To those of you to whom this applies I say thanks.

I also realize that I have been fortunate to work in SAPOL and that at some stage we should all appreciate just how good this job is. If you fit the category of a generic knocker, then look again and think about how lucky we all have been to have worked among the police community. If after considering all the options you still think the job is not what it should be, do something about that or do yourself and the rest of SAPOL a favour and get out.

I also acknowledge the excellent work performed by the front-line members who at times receive little recognition; the patrol officers who are often sold short. Keep up the good work. Some people do appreciate the effort that is put in.

Finally, good luck to you all and as I heard Steven Koski say: “What happens to you in life is not as important as how you react to it.”

Yours sincerely
Rick Bubner
Inspector
Traffic Support Branch

Dear Andy

I wish to advise of my resignation from PASA on my last day with SAPOL, namely January 21, 2001, completing some 40 years of service.

Obviously, over this period, there have been many changes – some cosmetic, some real. Without doubt, we need change and nobody would disagree that some years ago we certainly did. However, I doubt anybody anticipated what we got. Some for the good, some questionable and others that we had to have merely to erase the past. Sadly, one of the results has been a loss of camaraderie and trust between people, and when people do not trust each other, for whatever reason, caring and sharing disappear. Despite this, history has shown that change and management style/philosophies are cyclical and so at some time in the future that which was familiar in the past may yet again return.

I have had a very enjoyable working relationship with the many people that I have come into contact with and leave with many good memories. Finally, I thank PASA for assistance provided in time of need.

Yours sincerely
Paul Garret
Superintendant

Dear Peter

Due to my resignation from SAPOL effective January 22, 2001, I tender my resignation from the Police Association.

The 39 years with SAPOL have been fun, but the time has arrived.

Best wishes

Sergent 357/3

Dear Andy

I wish to advise the Police Association of South Australia that I wish to cancel my membership, due to the fact that I have resigned from SAPOL. My last day of service is January 23, 2001.

I am now living in Melbourne with my partner and son, Jacob. I am going to pursue my study in the field of social work along with spending time with Jacob.

I thank everyone whom I have had the pleasure of working with during my 20 years of service, in particular the girls from Crimestoppers who made my last days in SAPOL some of the most memorable.

Regards
Karen (Kaz) Althoff

Please accept my resignation from the Police Association of SA effective January 24, 2001, due to my resignation from SAPOL that date.

I have pondered long and hard over the decision to resign or remain. The changes to and the overall degradation of my workplace and the torment suffered by those around me have made my position within SAPOL untenable. Although personally unscathed, the effects of seeing co-workers singled out by management has impacted negatively on my morale and fellow members within Northern Operation Services Motor Cycles. In the end, the decision was obvious.

I leave to pursue a number of employment prospects ranging from contract vehicle and property maintenance to hauling semi-trailers.

I wish all those I’ve worked with over the past 14 years at Port Adelaide and Holden Hill the best for the future. Remember when cruisin’ through Mount Torrens on your way to Birdwood or the river to look out for the old two-storey house with a red roof, diagonally opposite the hotel. Drop in for a chat and coffee.

Yours sincerely

Dear Peter

Please accept my resignation from the Police Association of South Australia due to retirement with my last day of service being January 29, 2001.

After over 43 years and 11 months, it is with sadness that the time has come to do so, however, I look forward to a more relaxed lifestyle as a result of it, having already had a couple of months’ practice. I have had a long and happy time in the force. There have been, of course, the ups and downs, however, everyone should remember the good times and not dwell on the bad ones. I have always believed that the job is like a wheel and the ups follow the bad ultimately, so those still there should not despair, it can only get better. This took place several times during my service.

I realize that it is difficult to understand some of the questionable changes that have taken place and the attitudes of some executive members. But the younger members can also learn from this and, should you ever be in that position at a later stage, do not make the same mistakes. Remember how you felt yourselves.

I sincerely thank the members of the association executive for their untiring efforts in gaining better working conditions, which I might add are far superior to many of the conditions outside the force.

Lastly, I wish the very best to all members that I have served with over my career, you could not wish for a better group of people.

Yours sincerely
Barry Lugg
Traffic Training and Promotion Section

Dear Andy

Please accept my resignation from the Police Association, my last day of active duty being January 31, 2001.

I thank all those I have worked with over the last 10 years, and I have enjoyed working with everyone at Christies. I wish you all good luck with your chosen futures.

I have decided to move onto greener pastures but hope to stay in touch. Having said that, please come and buy a book.

Jas Pennock
FCC 1929/1

Dear Sir

I hereby resign from the Police Association effective February 7, 2001, as I have resigned from SAPOL.

Yours faithfully
Daryl Lamont

Dear Andy

Please accept my resignation from the Police Association, as my last day of service was Wednesday, January 31, 2001.

The early retirement allows one to consider other options whilst still relatively young and become involved in a totally different venture. Thank you to previous and current association staff and committee members for their efforts.

A sincere “thank you” to the many people I have worked with over the years. I leave with many happy memories, which no doubt I will reflect on periodically. I guess the not so happy memories will fade into oblivion.

Good luck and endeavour to be happy

Phil Davis
Detective Sergeant 1985/9
Holden Hill Investigations
