Police triumph at Tunarama |
|
More than 5,000 tourists flocked to Port Lincoln for the 40th annual Tunarama festival in late January. With live bands, rodeos and fishing competitions in full swing, the towns accommodation was totally booked out.
As in past years, Port Lincoln police participated in the popular festival, and did SAPOL proud.
Coached by Gil Green, a police team competing against a Metropolitan Fire Service team won the tug-of-war cup. Both teams, and their families and friends, shared the prize a keg of beer at the Port Lincoln Grand Tasman Hotel.

Dave Hector (right) participated in the Big Heave, in which he had to push a railway carriage five metres on tracks. After the push, participants released the carriage to see how far it travelled.
The keg-rolling team (above from left: Hans Minchin, Ashley Gordon, Graham Smith and Mark Goold) finished third in the open competition.
A police triathlon open team (Hans Minchin bike, Ashley Gordon swimming, and Graham Smith running) also won its event.
In the open Tuna Toss competition, Mark Goold (above) finished second with a 19.13-metre throw of an 8-kg frozen tuna.
