More police abused
Following in the footsteps of Adelaide City councillor, Anne Moran, another South Australian public official has chosen to hurl insults at selfless, hard-working police officers.
Controversy has, through the media, surrounded the police seizure of the photographic book, Pictures, by the late US photographer, Robert Mapplethorpe.
Police dealing with the issue should, according to Arts Minister Diana Laidlaw, get a life and find better things to do (The Advertiser, February 19, 2001).
But police act and can only act in accordance with the laws governments decide to institute.
Minister Laidlaw should not need reminding that she is herself a lawmaker. If she feels unease about police powers to deal with publications, she should act to alter their authority in the appropriate forum State Parliament.
The rebuild
With its new kitchen, the SA Police Club has further enhanced its professional standing within the Adelaide restaurant scene.
And the recent renovations reported in New Club Kitchen a Total Rebuild show the degree of service the Police Club is determined to deliver to its members.
Greatly positive commentary on the long-awaited upgrade has already flowed into the Police Association.
All those associated with the club, particularly the kitchen staff, showed great dedication and endless patience, as their former facility became increasingly unworkable.
From the quotes attributed to club secretary, Merge Presser, diners can, as a direct result of the new kitchen, expect new and even more appealing menus through 2001.
The Police Journal congratulates the club, not only on its new, high-quality kitchen, but also its 40 years of unfailing service to police and civilians alike.
