Mens Fours Modbury
This was an evening event played under lights against members of the RSABA (Royal South Australian Bowling Association) on November 23 last year at Modbury Bowling Club. The warm weather was excellent for playing bowls under lights.
Five rinks from the RSABA shaped up against five SAPBC rinks, three of which lost (John McKnight 33/3, Nick Zuvich 22/9, Peter Baehnk 14/4). The rinks of Lindsay Yeo and Danny Fitzgerald drew on 14 and 16 shots respectively.
Mixed Fours Payneham
More than 100 bowlers braved the heat to compete in the mixed fours day at Payneham on November 26.
The days bowling consisted of a game of 11 ends and another of 12.
In a close competition, five rinks vied for top spot on two wins. Rinks skippered by F. Martin, Lindsay Yeo (each on 54 points) and A. Sullivan, R. Bob Peters (each on 55 points) were not successful. The eventual winner (on 56 points) was a rink skippered by Neil Marriott, ably supported by Tino Robbiano, Betty Marriott and Ray Rattray.
The winner of the losers (lost the first game, won the second) was a rink skippered by John McKnight.
Mens Fours Lockleys
The SAPBCs annual competition against the Commonwealth Bank Bowling Club was held at the Lockleys Bowling Club in early December.
Four SAPBC rinks were matched up against the CBA team, which was a couple of players short. SAPBC members, Trevor Gregory and Roger Dinham, joined the opposition.
The greens were a little slow and not to everyones liking, but the game was played in a great atmosphere.
The police team ran out the eventual winner with 60 shots to 51. A rink skippered by Alan Martin performed best, winning 14 shots to nine. Other winning skippers were Nick Zuvich (16 shots to 11) and Peter Baehnk (14 shots to 13).
Lindsay Yeos rink was the only loser, going down by two shots. Among his opposition rink of Jim Roberts was Trevor Gregory, who always gives his best.
Mens Fours Clearview
The synthetic greens and lights of the Clearview Bowling Club welcomed five rinks from the SAPBC and the Past Presidents Association Bowling Club on December 12.
Clearview Bowling Club president, Barry Edwards, handed over the facilities of his club to the SAPBC.
Present were the SAPBCs opponents State president, Gavin Martin, and their metropolitan president, Frank Cahill.
The evening was warm with a slight breeze blowing intermittently. For bowling, conditions were extremely pleasant.
The SAPBC won the evening convincingly (84 shots to 45). Danny Dahlitz skippered the best-performed rink, winning 19 shots to three. The only winner for the Past Presidents was Alan Weber, who was victorious over the police rink skippered by Trevor Gregory (20 shots to nine). Other rinks skippered by Peter Baehnk, Lindsay Yeo and Alan Martin each had convincing wins.

The special service of active SAPBC member, Ronald Douglas Allen, was recently recognized with the Australian Sports Medal for 2000.
