Police Officers Award

The Police Association and Department of Premier and Cabinet are reviewing the Police Officers Award in line with the requirement set out at section 99 of the Industrial and Employee Relations Act 1994.

This will mean that the structure of the award will change, but not the content. The clauses will be renumbered and grouped in their respective relevant parts.

For example, the relevant clauses pertaining to hours of work, breaks, overtime, shiftwork and weekend work will be grouped together in a specific part, as will clauses for specific leave of absence etc.

Once this process is completed, the association and Department of Premier and Cabinet will seek endorsement by the Industrial Relations Commission of SA.

This will mean that the award as you know it - and the relevant clauses that you refer to - would have been renumbered. A new terminology will emerge. It will take some time for all members to familiarize themselves with the structural changes.

Rest assured that the content does not change. However, the association is currently preparing specific variations to the award to bring it up to date. The association would seek agreement from the Department of Premier and Cabinet to any variation initiated by the association, but some variations may be opposed. The commission would then decide on the issue/s.

Once the review of the Award is finalized, members will be notified and a copy of the award will be sent to your workplace delegate.
