More than 50 Retired Police Officers Association members attended their monthly meeting in the PASA building on November 2. Police Association of SA secretary, Andy Dunn, spoke about retiring police officers retaining their PASA membership. More information on this issue will be available in the new year.
Allan Tindall from Townsend House addressed the gathering on the history of the institution and the services given to others.
Graduation
RPOA president, Les Morris, presented the organizations Operational Safety Award to Probationary Constable D McEwan at the graduation ceremony of course 25 at Fort Largs in late October. Eight RPOA members attended the parade.
Annual Dinner
More than 100 members have indicated their intention to attend the annual dinner at the Police Club on November 23. The RPOA looks forward to the meal outlined in October Police Journal.
Raelene Holloway will once again organize seating and decorations.
Annual Picnic
About 107 people attended the annual picnic, which was a great success. The RPOA is grateful to Charlie Rumbelow for cooking, Trevor Bakes for the refreshments and those members who helped prepare the barbecue.
The committee girls and some others once again performed brilliantly in the kitchen.
Country Visit
The RPOA committee decided - after much discussion - to embark on a country trip which had been put off last year. In mid-October, committee members and their partners travelled to Waikerie. There, 12 Loxton, Renmark, Barmera, Berri, Balaklava and One Tree Hill members joined them for lunch at the Waikerie Hotel.
Apologies came from Tanunda, Virginia, Lewiston, Renmark, Barmera, and Berri, with promises of attendance on another occasion.
Les Morris welcomed everyone to the luncheon and gave the history of the regional visits to Victor Harbour, Murray Bridge, Barossa, Kadina, and Port Augusta.
Sick List
The RPOA wishes those on the sick list a speedy recovery.
Vale
Ronald (Taffy) Newman died in Western Australia on October 21.
Next Meeting
The RPOA December meeting is a general get-together with a party atmosphere. Members are encouraged to join in this fun afternoon before Christmas.
The RPOA wishes those who do not attend a very happy Christmas and a healthy and happy New Year.
The first RPOA meeting for 2001 is scheduled for February 1.
