Dear Andy

Please accept my resignation from the Police Association of South Australia effective August 9, 2000, that being my last day of service with the South Australia Police due to my retirement.

To all members, and in particular those in the traffic branch whom I have had the pleasure to work with, I wish you all the best for the future.

Yours sincerely
Ken Symons
Ex-Senior Sergeant 1540/8
Northern Motor Cycles

Dear Andy

I hereby tender my resignation as a member of the Police Association effective from October 22, 2000, my last day of service following my resignation from SAPOL on the grounds of invalidity.

I leave after 27 years of service to an uncertain future, but one that can only be an improvement on what I have had to endure in the last four years.

Whilst I have many good memories of my time in this job they do not come to the fore very often anymore as they are shrouded by the events and treatment I have received during the course of the last four years.

In 1996 I spoke up in an effort to correct an injustice, not only for myself but also for my workmates. Unfortunately it changed nothing, I received no support and I have paid the price.

When they see that I have resigned there will undoubtedly be those among management who will be happy to be rid of me, if they can remember who I am. I have not worked since June 1999 and since that time have been contacted twice. Once was a visit three weeks after I stopped work and the second a phone call several months later but since then absolutely nothing.

The lack of concern for my welfare is no surprise to me after working in the police force for almost 27 years but it was disappointing.

Perhaps if I had taken the final solution as I recently realized I came so close to doing, it would have made them re-evaluate the way in which I was treated. But I doubt it. They would most likely have mumbled a few platitudes to themselves and carried on as if I had never existed.

Sadly there will be few that read this letter who will fully understand what I have been through. Those few who do understand will be those who took the time to care and don’t need to read this letter anyway and I thank them for that.

I would particularly like to thank Ian Humphrey from Rehabilitation Section who, although he has never worked as a police officer, during the last 14 months has shown more compassion, support and understanding than anyone else in SAPOL ever did, and also my wife and family - without their support I would never have made it this far.

Police Association of South Australia

Please accept my resignation from the Police Association as of October 30, 2000, this being my last day of service with SAPOL.

To those members I have worked with over the past 15 years at Holden Hill Patrols, Investigations and Sexual Assault Section I wish to thank you for your friendships and good memories. My two dearest friends, Sue and Jo, whom I have spent time working with in SAPOL. To this day I admire your work skills and congratulate you.

Police Association

I hereby tender resignation from the Police Association due to my retirement from SAPOL. My last day of service is October 31, 2000.

I wish the remaining members of course 116 all the best for the future, also the many members I have worked with during the 27 years that I spent at the Elizabeth police station.

MJ Supple
Sergeant 2942/3
Elizabeth Police Station

(With regret, the Police Journal advises readers of Michael Supple’s sudden death on November 10, 2000.)

Dear Sir

I wish to notify you of my resignation from SAPOL and the Police Association effective on November 1, 2000.

I have no regrets serving in the police force for nearly 16 years. My fellow workers and the good friends I made were worth every minute of the ups and downs.

Thank you all for your support and comradeship over the years.

I’m moving back to Queensland where I was born to expand my martial arts and kickboxing business into that state.

Wishing you all the very best
Allan Gray

Dear Andy

I hereby tender my resignation as conference delegate for Hills Murray LSA and my membership from the Police Association due to my retirement on November 1, 2000.

I say thanks to the association for its support over many years both as an individual member and also as delegate, which enabled me to represent many other members for improved wages and conditions.

Perhaps I may be just dreaming but I wait with baited breath for a vast improvement in morale and police numbers to enable this job to be made easier.

I have purchased the True Value Hardware, Royal Park, and look forward to seeing members both as valued customers and a medium for news of the job.

Yours faithfully
MW Daly
Senior Constable

Police Association

I am writing this letter to inform you of my resignation from SAPOL effective Wednesday, November 8, 2000.

Having served for 14 years I feel it is time to broaden my horizons and I have accepted the challenge of a career in real estate.

I will think fondly of my time within the department, especially in my last two postings, Northern Command Response and Surveillance, and will always be thankful of the friendships I have formed.

I wish all who I have worked with well for the future and look forward to speaking with you when you want to buy a home in the hills.

Best regards
William J Kelsey

Dear Andy

Please accept my resignation from the Police Association of South Australia, my last day of service being November 8, 2000.

I thank all those members with whom I have worked over the last 35 years, for their support, loyalty and friendship.

I am leaving at a time when members are suffering from a dollar driven department with years of political promises of extra police and resources that fail to materialize. There is a current attitude of “tell someone who cares” by some sections of senior management, which indicates that they have forgotten the most important resource within the department being the increasingly thin blue line of dedicated and multi-skilled officers left at the front line.

Thanks to the association for its splendid work over the years in looking after the interests and welfare of members. I wish you and all members the very best for the future.

Ashleigh Gore
Sergeant 1807/2
Mount Barker Patrols

Dear Peter

Please accept my resignation from the Police Association effective from my last day of service, being November 9, 2000.

I thank the association over the years for the support and effort put in to improve the pay and conditions which have improved greatly in my time.

To all members who I have worked with or in some way been associated with, I say thank you for your support and friendship. I wish all members every success in their careers in the future.

The years pass quickly. I have enjoyed my time in the job and now I intend enjoying myself in the wide world.

Yours sincerely

Sturt Investigations

Dear Peter

Due to my resignation from SAPOL I wish to tender my resignation from the Police Association effective November 14, 2000.

I don’t leave SAPOL with any regrets, ill feeling or disappointment, but priorities have led me to pursue a career in the private sector.

I thank all my colleagues and peers for making my time in SAPOL enjoyable and for sharing some unforgettable experiences. Thanks especially to Sgt Trev “Don” Johnson, Kat Schild, Veronica Williams, Sgt Shipard and all past and present members of group three, Norwood patrols.

I will miss the job and the unique camaraderie that goes with it.

Dale Gray
Constable 9237/9
NDPT

Dear Andy Dunn

Please accept my resignation due to my resignation from SAPOL band section effective November 14, 2000.

Dear Peter

Please accept my resignation from the Police Association of SA effective November 15, 2000, this being my last day of service with SAPOL due to my age retirement.

I take this opportunity of thanking everybody with whom I have worked over the years and in particular members of the Serious Fraud Investigation Branch and the Hostage Negotiators Unit.

I know that I am going to miss the support and camaraderie that I have experienced in both these areas but this will be matched by the wonderful memories that I will be taking with me as a result of the varied experiences gained whilst working in both units.

Best wishes to all SAPOL members and the association in its forthcoming EB3 negotiations.

Bryan Hearn
Detective Senior Sergeant 2188/5
Serious Fraud Investigation Branch

Dear Peter

Please accept my resignation from the Police Association, effective November 15, 2000, which is my last day of service. I have purchased a business here in Coober Pedy.

I thank the association for its marvellous efforts over the years in regard to pay and conditions and wish them well with the next EB.

I also thank Sean Richter for all his assistance during the previous nine months, as well as our Northern Remote Branch delegate, Jim Tappin.

Yours sincerely

Dear Andy

I hereby tender my resignation as a member of the Police Association due to my retirement from SAPOL. My last day of service is November 29, 2000.

After nearly 43 years in “the job” I, like many before me, head for greener pastures. Some may say I am being put out to pasture.

Through the medium of your journal I pass on my thanks to all those in SAPOL who I have been associated with over the years. To you, your staff and committee members with whom I worked during my secondment to the association, thank you.

On my return to SAPOL I was fortunate enough to be given a position within Human Resources working with a very dedicated, understaffed group of people whose commitment is to ensure SAPOL members are given the best of service, at times under very trying circumstances.

To all in HR Executive, Personnel, HRMB, Payroll, Employee Relations, OHS&W, Rehab, Recruiting, Psych Branch and Welfare, Equity and Diversity (and anyone I may have forgotten), many thanks for your friendship, assistance and guidance. You have been a great group of people to have worked with and known.

Many thanks
Wayne Jones 1472/2
Human Resource Service

Dear Peter

God bless you all
