SAVING GRACE

Two-time Oscar nominee Brenda Blethyn stars as Grace Trevethen, whose late husband jumped out of a plane without a parachute. Grace has been left with a manor on the Cornish coast - along with the massive debt her husband had been secretly amassing.

Now, with creditors and repossessors on her heels, Grace is faced with the prospect of losing everything.

Desperate times call for desperate measures, so when Grace is asked to tend an ailing, if illicit, plant belonging to the manor’s soon-to-be-sacked caretaker (Craig Ferguson of The Drew Carey Show), she gets an outrageous idea. Why not use her renowned green thumb to make some serious money and pay off her debts? Grace and Matthew subsequently transform the orchid hothouse into a lucrative enterprise of another kind.

Despite the old adage - “Crime never pays” - Grace’s situation comes barrelling to a resolution in an adventure that inspires personal liberation, a touch of romance and delight for all.

Rated MA, Saving Grace is a delightful, light-hearted film set in the beautiful coastal county of Cornwall, England. With some very funny scenes throughout, it rates eight out of 10.

LOVE HONOUR AND OBEY

Jonny (Jonny Lee Miller) and Jude (Jude Law) grew up together in inner-London, where Jude showed Jonny how to pull the wings off flies. Now they’re grown up, and while Jonny lives a dull life as a humble postman, Jude has become a successful criminal - thanks to his gang leader uncle, Ray (Ray Winstone).

Jonny begs Jude to introduce him to Ray so he can share in the glamorous criminal life. But once he becomes an insider, Jonny is disappointed at the lack of violence and excitement - so he starts manipulating events in the hope of inciting a gang war.

Surprisingly, this film is hilarious; the Viagra scene is an absolute scream! It is brutal and violent, but at the same time a real laugh. It is not a film for young children. Love Honour And Obey is rated MA and deserves nine out of 10.

CHRISTINE ANU - COME MY WAY

Sunshine on a Rainy Day is perhaps the best way to describe Christine Anu’s latest album, Come My Way. High in the list of some wonderful Australian artists, Anu has proved that the success of her 1995 platinum album didn’t happen by chance.

This album’s first single, Sunshine on a Rainy Day, presents just a sample of what the album has to offer. With 13 tracks, Come My Way presents wonderful music by a talented artist.

KYLIE MINOGUE - LIGHT YEARS

Equally impressive is the latest album by Australian pop-music artist, Kylie Minogue. Not content to sit back and follow the lead of other artists, Kylie has successfully grasped the disco era and brought it to the new millennium.

Light Years has already experienced chart success with the hits Spinning Around On a Night Like This. It will surely rise in popularity as music listeners, both young and older, experience the variety of pop-disco tracks.

DOLPHINS - IMAX SOUNDTRACK

Featuring the music Sting and arrangements by Steve Wood, this soundtrack CD is a rare treat. As a music score from the IMAX sensation, Dolphins, the tracks presented are both tranquil and, at times, playful. The album includes two cuts from Sting’s Grammy-winning album Brand New Day: Fill Her Up and Ghost Story, along with other tracks that will both relax and inspire.

For the opportunity to win a copy of the CD, put your details on the back of an envelope and send it to Dolphins Comp, SA Police Journal (168).

HONEST - MUSIC FROM & INSPIRED BY THE FILM

Those on the lookout for music that’s just a little off-centre should consider this album of music inspired by the movie Honest. But don’t just have a cursory listen to the tracks. It may take more than one session to really absorb the music. Honest features mainly jazz and Motown music by such artists as Marvin Gaye and Tammi Terrell, Diana Rossa and The Supremes, The Miracles and The Temptations. It’s highly recommended, but not for the average listener.

For the opportunity to win a copy of the CD, put your details on the back of an envelope and send it to Honest Comp, SA Police Journal (168).
