Dear Peter

I wish to tender my resignation from the Police Association, effective immediately. My last day of service with SAPOL was May 3, 2000, and my last rostered shift was in October of 1997. After two-and-a-half years of parental leave, I have come to the conclusion that the care of our three young children is paramount at this stage. I have decided to stay home with them.

I wish to thank all the great people I have worked with at Whyalla and Port Pirie during the last eight-and-a-half years. I wish you all the best.

Finally, I thank the association for all the hard work achieving so much for all members. I am particularly grateful for the huge steps taken forward in recent years in conditions for women. As the first member to get pregnant while still on probation and one of the first part-time workers in country regions, I have many reasons to thank the association. If not for the industrial matters addressed by them, I would not have been able to continue in the job as long as I did.

Yours sincerely

Dear Peter

As a result of my retirement from the South Australia Police I must submit my resignation from the Police Association of South Australia, effective from my last day of service which was Saturday, August 26, 2000.

Over the years, even when we were not always in complete agreement on some of the many issues we have had to address together, I have always appreciated the courteous and respectful manner in which you conducted your dealings with me and the SAPOL branches or groups I was required to represent. I thank you accordingly. I offer my congratulations, too, for all the important achievements which PASA has secured over the years on behalf of us all.

May I also extend my best wishes for the future to you personally, Secretary Andy Dunn, association office bearers, office staff and all your members.

I have had a most rewarding police career extending to almost 40 years and want to thank all my colleagues and friends, both past and present, at every level and throughout the State for their companionship.

You may possibly recall that some 15 years ago, in the course of one of those phases which occur from time to time, when the performance and role of SAPOL was under intensive media scrutiny, I made a public statement which attracted some attention. It was to the effect that the South Australia Police was not “just another government department”, but a unique and crucial social enterprise requiring and deserving similarly unique and crucial support and co-operation from government and individual citizens alike. My view on this has not changed and my fervent hope is that SAPOL and PASA, together with all their employees and members, will continue successfully along the path of true professionalism and thereby gain even greater moral and practical support from every section of the South Australian community.

Yours sincerely
Owen Bevan
Chief Superintendent (retired)

To the Police Association

Please accept my resignation from the Police Association due to my resignation from SAPOL on 1.9.00. Thanks and good luck to all those special people I have worked with, especially those in Ceduna and Narcoorte. I wish to thank those country members who enabled me to continue my police career while being a sole parent, without their support this would not have been possible. I am now moving to Casterton, Vic, with my partner for some long awaited quality family time.

Regards
Jodi Bridges
Constable 5374/9

Dear Peter

Please accept my resignation from the Police Association, effective September 6, 2000. I am leaving the force and entering the private sector in the hope of becoming very wealthy.

Thanks to everyone who worked with me at Norwood under Rockin’ Rod Dennis, and later Sgt Shipard. I made some great friends and had a lot of fun.

I wish all members of SAPOL the best in what I found to be an exciting and rewarding career.

Regards
Chris Hannaford
Constable 1821/2

Dear Andy

Please accept my resignation from the Police Association effective September 20, 2000, my last day of service due to retirement.

I suddenly realized the other day that I was the only SOB (silly old bugger) from course 94 still working for SAPOL.

I choose only to remember the good times and hope to irritate my wife by smiling quietly to myself as I reflect on past conquests, in a criminal apprehension sense, of course.

My thank to everyone with whom I have worked over the past 37 years, both serving and retired, for their assistance and comradeship. To those remaining, remember, with SAPOL there’s always a choice: you can choose to do it willingly or unwillingly.

I’d like to thank the members (past and present) of the Police Association for all their efforts since 1963, in particular the July pay increment which helped me on my way.

Good luck to you all
Brian (BRS) Smith
Major Crime Investigation Branch
