Graduation
Two courses of very fine officers graduated from Fort Largs in late June. Retired Police Officers Association vice-president, Lex Teague, presented RPOA trophies. The graduation ceremony - attended by about 500 friends and family members - was held inside the gymnasium because of inclement weather. Commissioner Mal Hyde presented the graduates with their certificates of authority, while onlookers faces beamed with intense pride.
Annual Dinner
Those who wish to attend the RPOA annual dinner - to be held on Thursday, November 23 (6pm for 6:30pm) - should forward $18 (per person) to the treasurer by the first week of November.
Seating will be organized by Raelene Holloway. Accordingly, members attending the dinner should advise her of their seating preferences as early as possible.
Chef Toni has prepared a wonderful dinner menu which includes:
- Pumpkin or potato and leek soup.
- Turkey, pork or chicken with vegetables.
- Apple strudel and cream or Christmas pudding and cream.
- Cheese and greens.
- Tea and coffee.
Annual Picnic
Those who wish to attend the RPOA annual picnic-barbecue - to be held on October 15 - should advise the secretary. The event has no official starting time, but early arrival is recommended. The barbecue is normally prepared by midday.
AGM
The president and treasurer presented their reports at the RPOA annual general meeting on Thursday July 6. Both expressed their pleasure with the preceding year.
Don Bean conducted a ballot for committee positions. He appropriately mentioned the need for younger members to consider taking on roles as office holders.
Members of the new committee are: Colin and Joyce Beames, Alan and Maureen Dwyer, Raelene Holloway, Les Morris, Ken and Shirley Phillips, Lex Teague, Rob Thomson, Ray Williams and Tom Zacher.
A unanimous decision was reached to increase the annual fees from 50¢ to 60¢ per fortnight, or $15.30 for those who pay an annual fee.
Well Wishes
The RPOA hopes for the best results for those members currently undergoing medical examinations and tests.
