Re-creating Excellence

aylors Winery is onto a winner with its July release of the Promised Land range of wines under a newly-designed label. With this revitalized range, senior winemaker, Adam Eggins, will move Taylors’ to the forefront of wineries.

The Taylor family aims to attract a wider range of wine consumers by appealing to a younger market - through the café scene.

Formerly known as St Andrews Vineyard, Taylors Estate was established in 1882 and purchased by the family in 1995. Nestled in the Clare Valley, its terra rossa soils have produced wines of rare excellence, and the original winery remains to this day.

After buying the property, the Taylors set about re-creating the excellent wine once produced on St Andrews’ soil. They achieve that goal today with 110 acres of wine grapes and well-built cellars with modern appliances.

1999 TAYLORS PROMISED LAND UNWOODED CHARDONNAY

This is, to the eye, a natural but brilliant pale yellow wine with a light green tinge immediately apparent. The subtle aroma of peaches mixed with apples and melons is also immediately noticeable. This heightens the sense of a clean, crisp and appealingly fresh wine.

Its structure is of a creamy texture with abundant flavour and mouth feel. The fermentation process makes the apple and melon flavours simply compelling. This wine has great depth which lingers on mid-palate.

Ready to drink now - or cellar for a further three years - Promised Land Unwooded Chardonnay is the ideal wine for chilli or hot curry dishes.
RRP per bottle: $13.

1999 TAYLORS PROMISED LAND SHIRAZ/CABERNET

Matured in American and French oak hogsheads for 12 months, this wine is deep ruby red, with aromas of cherry, jam, chocolate and tobacco. Flavours of plums and berries - complemented with a hint of pepper - dance around the palate. The oak maturing process brings this wine a vanillin length and integration.

It can be enjoyed now but will improve further to 2006. Taylors Promised Land Shiraz/Cabernet is a perfect companion to game-type meat or the trusty barbecue.
RRP per bottle: $12.

These outstanding wines will excel on the café market.
