Monthly Meeting
Sixty-five Retired Police Officers Association members attended their monthly meeting in the PASA building on June 1. President Les Morris received several apologies and announced October 15 as the date of the police academy picnic, at which the Police Credit Union Choir will entertain. Those who plan to attend the picnic should advise the RPOA secretary.
Also announced by President Morris was November 23 as the date of the Police Club dinner.
Guest Speaker
Farmers Union/National Foods representative, Ann Rowland, spoke about the companys milk products, which include Pura Light Start, Pura Skimmer and various flavoured milk. All were willingly tasted by the meetings attendees.
Graduation
Vice-President Lex Teague presented Probationary Constable Simon Whitehead with the RPOA Operational Safety Award during Course 19s recent graduation ceremony at Fort Largs. Probationary Constable Whitehead was also presented with the Police Credit Union Community Service Award.
Finance
Police Credit Union spokesperson, Heather Hemingway, explained the benefits of the Gold Account. To become a holder of this account, one must be either a member of the Police Association of South Australia or the RPOA.
AGM
The RPOAs July meeting will include the AGM as well as elections of officer bearers and committee members. Those who wish to submit their names should contact the secretary.
Membership
An application form for membership of the RPOA can be found in this issue of the Police Journal. Those who have let their membership lapse should complete the form and forward it to: The Secretary, Mrs Shirley Phillips, 10 Hillburn Ave, Windsor Gardens, 5087. Spouses become members automatically. The annual fee of $13 should be forwarded to the treasurer, or one may sign an authority to pay monies which will allow the Police Pensions Fund to deduct 50¢ from ones pension.
Entertainment
Future entertainers will include:
- Musician David Fewster (August).
- Ginge Walker (September).
- Singer-guitarists Georgina and Eugene Fernandaz (October).
I thank the many people who sent me cards, made telephone calls and visited me during my month in hospital and three months in rehabilitation. I also thank Ken and my family who kept my spirits up throughout the whole period.
