AT THE CINEMA

FANTASIA 2000

Walt Disney’s original Fantasia has cast its spell upon the imaginations of moviegoers for generations. Although planned to be a work in progress, it took almost six decades for Walt’s nephew, Roy Disney, to bring the sequel to life.

In Fantasia 2000, various artists introduce their own style of musical masterpieces. With the exception of The Sorcerer’s Apprentice, all new titles are featured - some a little more contemporary than those in the original Fantasia.

As we have come to expect from Disney, the cartoon visuals are excellent and supported by an equally splendid musical score.

Fantasia 2000 is showing now at Adelaide city and metro cinemas. It will appeal to a wide audience, and provides the opportunity to introduce children to classical music.

ON CD

MUSIC FROM AND INSPIRED BY M:i-2

Those who have already seen the sequel to Mission Impossible will know it’s action-packed. So too is this soundtrack-plus album that features music from and inspired by M:i-2. Like the movie, this CD is loud and fast, and clearly not suited to lounge-chair listeners. As one might expect from such artists as Limp Bizkit, Metallica, Rob Zombie, Powderfinger and the Foo Fighters this music is not for the weak-of-heart.

ONE - SISTER2SISTER

Anyone looking for the right CD to purchase for that almost-teenager will be close to the mark with the latest release from S2S. One features a number of recent hits, including What’s a Girl to Do and Sister (parents will relate to the first few words of the track: “she won’t get off the phone”). Those who have been forced to endure Bardot will find the quality of music and vocals in One a welcome break.

HO’S KITCHEN - MICHAEL SPIBY

The music of Michael Spiby has recently found a place among the play lists of local radio stations, and probably for good reason. His musical and vocal style will please a broad range of listeners. The most often broadcast tracks have included (All My Love) Ella and the remix of Mixed Up Shook Up Girl, but every track’s a winner. Originally the voice and songwriter of The Badloves, Michael Spiby’s true abilities shine in the CD release Ho’s Kitchen.

FOR THE LOVE OF THE GAME - MUSIC FORM THE MOTION PICTURE

For the Love of the Game didn’t even come close to success at the cinema and, sadly, the soundtrack album will experience poor sales. But discerning listeners should give it a chance. With music from Lyle Lovett, Roy Orbison, Steely Dan and others, the CD will be a worthwhile addition to any collection. It should still be available in stores.
