Former Police Property
Home to Winemaker

After property owner, Brian Medcalf, bought land next to the SA police department’s Echunga training facility in 1973, he named it Jupiter Creek Eco Park.

The property’s historic setting is enhanced by natural bushland. Deer, horses, emus and kangaroos graze, while the original Jupiter Creek gold diggings are nearby and accessible by the Heysen walking trail.

Next year, this estate will become home to Jupiter Creek Wines, which currently lies in the Barossa Valley. Parcels of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Shiraz, Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc vines have been planted on the Echunga property. The newly-formed vineyard is expecting its first vintage next year from its home-grown grapes.

Within a few months, Eco Park will be open to visitors for tastings and cellar-door sales.

Meanwhile, winemaker Paul Lindner continues to produce Jupiter Creek wines from Barossa Valley-grown grapes - the most premium fruit available.

JUPITER CREEK 1998 SHIRAZ

A moderate summer gave the grapes a slow ripening, which has brought about a rich plummy appearance to the colour of this wine. Its aromas are of a rich raspberry essence with a tendency toward peppers and spices. This medium-bodied dry wine is well rounded with smooth, soft tannins. A very easy-to-drink red, it will complement a traditional roast beef meal with all the trimmings, but leave it to breathe for an hour or two after opening.

I would expect this Shiraz to excel in future wine shows and recommended it highly.
RRP per-bottle price: $18.

JUPITER CREEK 1999 CHARDONNAY

This magnificent wine has been produced in the unwooded style to reveal the true Chardonnay fruit characteristic. It is a full-bodied wine with strong aromas of green melon and citrus fruits. A lingering aftertaste of limes follows an initial crisp, fresh taste. The aromatic fruit characteristics follow through to a soft, lengthy palate.

This wine has good depth with complex colour and balance. For a Chardonnay, one is assured of a pleasant surprise. It matches well with any type of Asian cuisine and is another highly recommended wine.
RRP per bottle price: $15.

Jupiter Creek wines are available at most liquor outlets, but for personal assistance contact Russell Williams (0411 412 200).
