"serving the protectors"
The Last Shift

Dear Andy

Please accept my resignation from the Police Association effective March 15, 2000, as I have terminated my employment with SAPOL.

After long deliberations I have decided to take employment within the private sector where promotional opportunities are realistic and foreseeable. Such opportunities are not just meaningless promises or propaganda lies used by those “at the top” to entice unwitting recruits to the job or keep those already in SAPOL within the job.

In my opinion those in the job who call themselves “managers” would not even last five minutes in the real world as executives. A primary role of any manager is to motivate his or her workers. Is it so hard for these “managers” to notice that a serious morale problem is present within SAPOL today, or do they simply ignore it hoping that with time it will rectify itself?

These and other “real” issues need to be addressed promptly by those in charge. Let’s really Focus on 21, and address the primary concerns of the real workers before they too leave.

Good luck to all.

sincerely

Police Association of SA

Please accept my resignation from the Police Association owing to my retirement from SAPOL. My last effective day of service is March 31, 2000.

To all who I had the pleasure to work with over the years I wish you a safe and prosperous future.

I have fond memories of Para Hills patrols, Mount Gambier, T2 Division, Highway Patrol, Accident Investigation and South Coast LSA, including McLaren Vale, Aldinga and Christies Beach station.

Thanks also to the staff of the Police Association and Rehabilitation Branch for their assistance over the past six years.

Yours sincerely
Phil Howard
Senior Constable

To all Police Association members

As of April 5, 2000, I will be resigning from the South Australia Police Department. I thank the association for being there when I needed them and for doing such a good job, which is often not recognized by its members. I am leaving the police force to embark on a law degree to broaden my horizons, and I urge all members to consider keeping one foot in the department and foot out. One day you might realize that you don’t want to be a constable for the rest of your career.

Yours truly
Penelope Jane Morton
