Toy Run/Christmas Barbecue
The last club event for 1999 was the annual toy run/Christmas barbecue in mid-December. About 30 members met on Anzac Highway, Glenelg, and joined in the procession of motorcycles that headed to Hahndorf oval.
The huge turnout of motorcycles - with toys attached - was for a good cause: needy children. After members dropped off the toys and checked out the bike tents, they headed to the nearby Echunga oval for the annual club Christmas barbecue. About 40 people enjoyed this traditionally fun family day.
AGM/Club Calendar
The clubs AGM was held last December 2. The existing committee was unanimously re-elected for 2000. The club is keen to make this year its best yet. Comsec, Greg Trickett, has again painstakingly organized a calendar of events which suits road and dirt riders alike.
Some of the highlights are the World 500cc Motocross titles in Broadford, Victoria, on March 18 and 19. Lyn Dunstan, Al Coffee, the Schaches and I will travel to Broadford for this event. On the return journey, some will travel the Great Ocean Road for sightseeing.
Events scheduled for dirt fanatics and campers include:
- The Coonalpyn camp-away on the Easter long weekend.
- A new dirt ride at Karoonda (April 1 and 2).
- A new dirt ride at Geranium (July 1 and 2).
Also scheduled are the usual road rides in various parts of the state.
A big event for 2000 is the clubs hosting of an open Enduro at Coonalpyn on Sunday, August 6. The committee expects many entries, as this type of event is very popular with dirt riders of all capabilities. Motorcycling SA is right behind the club and will assist with officiating.
The Year Ahead
Since the first meeting in February this year, the club has already had several MFS members join, as well as first-time SAPOL members. Reports on club events will appear in the Police Journal throughout the year. Enquiries should be directed to committee members.
