Emergency Services Round Robin

-

Edwardstown Bowling Club was the venue for the inaugural Emergency Services Round Robin Tournament on January 30. The weather was hot and the greens well paced, as four rinks from each of the emergency services (police, fire and ambulance), and four more from the local club faced up to do battle.

The games were played in good spirit and results were close. An “ambos” team (K. Scanlon, Kingscliff BC member, M. Phillips, Jack Higgins and Peter Ryan) had a perfect score with three wins (30 shots up).

A “firies” team (J. Knight, J. Bray, R. Ettridge and P. Hewitt) was runner-up with two wins and 24 shots up.

Overall, the police team was victorious on 14 points from seven wins, closely followed by the local team and the ambos (each on 12 points). The firies brought up the rear with 10 points.

President Nick Zuvich was presented with a perpetual trophy and proceeds of the day (to be applied to a charity of the winner’s choice). President Zuvich donated the prize to Police Legacy.

Past Presidents Tournament

Five police clubs’ rinks played against past presidents of the RSABA (northern zone) on an early February evening.

The police club managed three wins, one draw and one loss. The wins more than covered the loss and the police club ran out winners by a comfortable margin. This is apparently the last of the competitions with past presidents because of restructuring within the RSABA.

Elizabeth Mixed Fours Day

The club held another successful “mixed” day at Elizabeth in early February. The greens were very good, the company was fine (as always) and the weather was perfect (perhaps a little hot for some).

The winner of the day’s prize was a rink skippered by Trevor Gregory, with 52 points. The winner of the loser’s prize went to a rink skippered by Mike Powell.
