Mixed Fours Day - Elizabeth
![]()
The club held another successful mixed day at Elizabeth in December. Fourteen of our rinks played off against 14 from the local club.
The greens were excellent, the company fine and the weather perfect. The competition was closely fought; each team had expected to win two games (the first of 11 ends and the second of 12).
Only seven managed to win both games. The ultimate winner of the days prize was a rink skippered by Ron Allen, with 56 points, closely followed by the rink of Roger Dinham, also on 56 points. The winner was determined on shots up - Rons 21 to Rogers 12.
Bi-annual Shield competition - Woodville

Five rinks skippered by A. Martin, L. Scaife, P. Baehnk, T. Gregory and N. Zuvich made their bi-annual trek to the Woodville Bowling Club to compete in another traditional shield competition.
The greens were good, given that it was an evening game, and the atmosphere was sedate and friendly.
The game was played to the bell and our side eventually ran out winners, defeating the local side by 61 shots to 55, with two rinks up and three down. The rinks of P. Baehnk (22/8) and T. Gregory (13/8) managed to cover losses by the other rinks to leave the result close.
National Police Bowling Carnival 2000 - Holdfast Bay

Our carnival is only two months away. Nominations have been called for and the closing date has passed.
The carnival extends from Sunday, April 2 to Saturday, April 8.
The opening ceremony at 9am on the first day is expected to be a very moving experience. Teams from each of the mainland States will march on prior to the official opening. The competition schedule is very tight and involves teams of about 24 bowlers from each of the States.
The competition begins at about 10am (after the official opening) and then 9am on each day following until early evening. One will see some excellent bowling from keen competitors, including a generous sprinkling of present and past State champions - competitors who are or have been at the pinnacle of lawn bowls in their respective States.
Entry is free and the club normally caters for about 250 bowlers, their wives, partners and friends. The event is a to chance to renew old friendships or make new ones.
