AT THE CINEMA

IMAX ENTERTAINMENT

With the holiday season now upon us, there’s no better time to look to Adelaide IMAX for entertainment. In addition to all the great movies being shown at IMAX are two new releases: Alien Adventure and Cirque du Soleil - Journey of Man.

Alien Adventure presents an extravaganza of 3D effects as you join the Glagoliths in their quest for a new land. This small tribe of wayward aliens has visited Earth in search of a suitable home for its civilization. Their thoughts of our home as the perfect planet soon disappear after the scouts set down in a new hi-tech adventure park, Adventure Planet. After exploring all the rides, their commitment to serious business is quickly forgotten.

It soon becomes obvious that the planetary explorers are concentrating more on having a good time than exploring Earth, and the high commander is not impressed. Calling the scouts back to the mothership, the high commander declares this “civilized” planet is incompatible to intelligent life. The search for the perfect planet continues...

Those who visited the Cirque du Soleil during recent Adelaide performances will be happy to queue for tickets at the release of Journey of Man. The new release is also highly recommended to those who missed the live event.

Circque du Soleil 3D presents a magical and outstanding experience and will bring you closer to the performers of Cirque than ever before. Journey of Man is more than a filmed performance, it is a visual and musical celebration of life that follows a mystical journey through the stages of man. Shot in fantastic locations around the world, each stage is introduced by a Cirque act. All the phenomenal elements of the live show are incorporated: the music, acts and atmosphere.

DOUBLE JEOPARD

Whether you’re in the USA or Australia, the law is the same - no person shall be charged with the same offence twice. It’s double jeopardy. And it’s the title of a new movie to be released in cinemas this month.

Framed for the murder of her husband, Libby Parsons (Ashley Judd) survives the long years in prison with two burning desires sustaining her - finding her son and solving the mystery that destroyed her once-happy life. With the help of prison friends, Libby established that her husband had staged his death. He is now living with their five-year-old son, and her best friend.

After coming to terms with the bizarre situation, Libby decides to murder her ex-husband Nick - in the middle of Times Square if she wants. She can’t be tried for the same offence twice - that would be double jeopardy.

Double Jeopardy is directed by Bruce Beresford. It stars Bruce Greenwood, Annabeth Grish, Roma Maffia and Davenia McFadden.

For the opportunity to win a double pass to this new release, put your details on the back of a used envelope (but not your postcode) and address it to Mike Horsfall, Sturt Police Station (12) Jeopardy.

VIETNAMESE WATER PUPPETS

Adelaide loved them in 1994 and they’re back for 2000 - the Thang Long Water Puppet Theatre of Hanoi.

Performances will be at the Adelaide Botanic Gardens from February 27 to March 19 as part of the Telstra Adelaide Festival 2000.

One hundred and forty puppets, sparkling fireworks and traditional music played at the side of the pond combine to tell ancient tales with modern flair and humour, capturing the imaginations of people throughout the world.

Tickets are available from Bass, with special family tickets (two adults and two children) available for child-friendly times of 5:30pm and 7:30pm. Other shows for the more romantically inclined are staged later in the evenings.

This latest release, a “best of”, includes the singles, Injustice, Don’t Tear It Down and Clarity Of Mind. The CD also includes five previously unreleased tracks through Festival Records. Mugshot is best suited to Spy V Spy fans.
