Legacy Annual General Meeting |
|
| By Karl
Faeth Secretary |
he SA Police Legacy annual general meeting was held in the Police Credit Union boardroom last October.
Reports which outlined Police Legacy initiatives of the previous 12 months were presented by President Elke Pfau, Treasurer Peter Mason and Liaison Officer Christine Williamson.
Retiring board members Peter Mason, Alan Steel and David Marr offered themselves for re-election and were appointed. The decision of the meeting to raise subscriptions from 50 cents to $1 a fortnight was unanimous and has assured the financial security of Police Legacy well into the future.
The board has always believed that the most valuable service to legatees would be to arrange visits to them on a regular basis, and it was very pleased to engage ex-police officer, Christine Williamson, for this role. Chris has now completed 12 months in that position, and the response from the ladies has been overwhelming. She is able to assist them with shopping, doctors appointments and other problems they may have. While some have family support, others do not and look forward to a visit and chat.
Chris has also been active in arranging social functions for them, which included lunch and a cruise on the West Lakes Princess, a trip to Hahndorf and lunch at the Pullman Restaurant at the casino.
Other services supplied by the board over the past 12 months include:
- Birthday cards and $20 to all wards up to 17 years of age.
- A gift basket and flowers to nearly 30 legatees aged 90 years and over on their birthdays.
- Cordless telephones to a couple of the ladies who have lost some of their mobility.
- Smoke detectors and security devices supplied and installed in the homes of those by whom theyre needed.
- Education grants for wards on an on-going basis (nearly $19,000 was paid out to assist in their school expenses).
- A barbecue in March every year for legatees and wards.
- An annual Christmas lunch.
Police Legacy in all States agreed to raise the profile of National Police Remembrance Day. For this reason, posters and ribbons are distributed through all police stations and Police Credit Union branches in September every year, which allows serving members and the public to show their support.
We are also pleased to be able to raise our own profile and present the Police Legacy Health and Fitness Award at every graduation parade at Fort Largs.
Police Legacy supports those left behind, so please support Legacy by becoming a member. A payroll deduction form with $1 directed to SA Police Legacy every fortnight is all thats needed. All deductions are tax deductible.
